MMMotors ape adoption.

MickyAs Manky Monkey Motors has gradually grown & the forum has developed into a nice cosy little community, it occurred to me that we ought to be doing something positive with the goodwill we’ve created. To that end, I suggested to the forum members that we adopt an ape at the MonkeyWorld rescue centre in Dorset. MonkeyWorld offer a variety of “adoption” packages including a group one, which required a minimum donation of £120. The idea was enthusiastically taken up & we’d soon drawn up a list of forum members, all willing to give £10 to the cause. In all we raised £200 & in October 2006 we began our adoption of Micky, a 25 year old Chimpanzee, rescued from a tormented life as a beach photographer’s prop in Spain. Since arriving at the park in 1987, he’s grown from a shy, introvert into a confident & playful member of his group. He’s easily spotted in his enclosure, (Paddy’s Group), as he’s the greyest. Our annual donation will go not just towards his upkeep, but to the welfare of all the park’s 160 resident apes.
In return we received an adoption certificate, a photo, a quarterly MonkeyWorld newsletter, plus a one-off group entry ticket, allowing free entry to the park for up to 30 people. We used this in the Spring of 2007 to organise a forum ride-out & picnic to visit “our” boy, Micky. Our year’s adoption will come up for renewal in October 2007 & I hope we can continue our support of MonkeyWorld. Why not join us for next Spring’s visit?
