The Lamb charity rod show

5th July 2008

Well, the sun really does shine on the righteous.
Contrary to the dire weather predictions, the Lamb pub in Theale, Berks, just off junction 12 of the M4, has been bathed in glorious sunshine all afternoon. Tazet & I were so pleased about that, not cos we didn’t want to get wet, but because we know Gina & Scottie, the ever enthusiastic couple behind the Tiki Munki drag racing team & their band of helpers had worked their collective socks off to make this get-together a success. They really deserved their sunshine.
By the time we arrived, an hour after the show’s noon start time, the pub’s carpark was already full. A nice mix of low buck daily drivers, big money show cars & classics, as well as a smattering of bikes, including a couple of NC Engineering’s bare metal chops. Lurking at the far end of the display area were a few of Scottie & Gina’s fellow Wild Bunch drag racing buddies, who pleased the crowd by firing up their machines several times during the course of the show. Nothing beats the sound of half a dozen open piped race engines roaring in unison!
At the opposite end of the carpark, in the beer garden, two rockabilly bands were doing their thing; Jake Allen & click to view larger imagethe Trashcanz, followed by The Unknowns. Both looked & sounded great, playing a mix of their own material & rock n roll standards. A third band, The Trashville Slammers, were due to play later inside the pub. Add to that a few trade stalls, an all day barbeque & staff who made sure there were no queues at the bar, plus not one, but two raffles & you’ve got the recipe for a really nice little show.
All proceeds went to the Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance. As far as I know, this was Gina & Scottie’s first go at organising anything like this & we reckon they got it spot on. Well done guys.

Thought we’d give you a little feedback about the Charity Hot Rodders Bash at Theale near Reading, on Saturday 5th July...
When we woke up at 5am and it was hammering with rain, let's just say, we swore very loudly!! But by 9am the blue sky was out and the sun was shining through. . .and luckily that's where it stayed all day !!
The cars were turning up just after 12, and by 2.30 we had to shut the car park off and ask the last few remaining show cars to park on the road outside (oops! we didn't predict that many cars turning up!!). We had about 35 hot rods and classics, including the dragsters, showing off their full sparkly glory in the blazing sun, and prize giving was pretty difficult!! Participants Choice was awarded to Paul Dorkins from Portsmouth with the F100 Panel Van, Landlord and Landlady’s choice went to the pink and blue GMC Pick up truck, and the Best of Show was awarded, very deservingly, to John Smith’s very rare Pro Street Henry J.
Dragsters on display included Tiki Munki Nostalgic Ruby Altered, Backdraft with C & C Racing team, Ratcatcher Resurrection, Destiny’s Angel, Simon William’s new slingshot and Thatadoo racing team with their Pro ET yellow Camaro. All the dragsters fired up twice for a cackle fest display, which certainly entertained the locals!
Both bands, Jake Allen and the Trashcanz, and The Unknown’s, went down a storm in the beer garden during the day, and the BBQ proved extremely popular, selling over 250 burgers, let alone the sausages and roast pork rolls!!
The Trashville Slammers in the evening were fabby-dastic as always, even though we missed half of it walking round selling more raffle tickets!!
Both raffles and all the fundraising from the day and the weeks leading up to it, raised over £700 for The Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, so we were all extremely over the moon and proud of everyone!
A fantastic day had by all, and Scottie, Gina and the Lamb Public House, would like to express our thanks to everyone who contributed (listed below), however small, to the day.
Shakespeare County Raceway, Santa Pod Raceway, NSRA, Post Haste, What Katie Did, Comet Clothing, Bernie Dexter, Andy Robinson Race Cars, Duksville Hot Rod Shop, Hot Rod Gazette, Custom Car Magazine, Victory Wheelers, R&R Imports, Retro Photos, NC Engineering, Tiki Munki, MC Building Services, A.Keep Electrical, Thatadoo Racig Team, King Cats Rock and Roll Band, A4 Metal Recycling, DS Racewear, C&P T-shirts, Wraith MC Club, Green’s Butchers, Kaven Beauty Shop, Jeff’s Ice Creams, Ian T (with his black pop!), Lamb Hotel, friends and family and locals of the Lamb Public House. . .
And anybody else who we may have missed out!!
