A quick report on the Northants National Chopper Club Custom & Classic Show yesterday, (22nd Sept).
It's been raining heavily here in darkest Basingstoke for days now, so it was a nice suprise to wake up to a warm & dry Sunday morning. Decided to take a chance & left my helmet & waterproofs at home, setting off for Weedon, near Northampton around 10.0.clock. Turned out to be a very pleasant ride, over to Newbury, up the A34 to Oxford, a quick jaunt up the M40 then onto the A5. Took about an hour & a half, with the Manky Mobile running well, sitting at a steady 75 or so, bimbling along in the sunshine. Very nice. Found Weedon with no trouble at all but managed to overshoot the turning for the show, heading off towards Daventry until I realised all the bikes were going the other way. D'oh! Turn around & trundle back again. Orienteering never was my strong point.
The show was held at the Plume of Feathers, a nice little country pub in a quite village street, surrounded by cottages -& lots of bikes. Not sure what the locals made of them parking all over their pavements but they're probably used to it as it's the regular meeting place of the Northants branch of the NCC.
Rode in, parked up & filled in a show entrant's card. I'd arranged to meet up with Ray & Becky, who duly arrived -by car. You wusses! Nice to see you both though. Becky was as lovely as ever & Ray was...well, Ray. I'd intended to take my old Nikon along with me but, as it weighs as much as a housebrick, I couldn't be bothered to lug it around all day. Ray produced one of those new-fangled digi-camera thingies so maybe he'll post some piccies soon?
Plenty of interesting machinery on show, though being organised by the Chopper Club, it was predictably mostly custom stuff. Lots of hairy, ruffty tuffty bikers. I'm not very hairy & my ruff isn't particulary tuff but they were all very pleasant fellows. A live band knocking out a selection of rock, blues & punk covers, a barbeque, a grassy beer garden to sit in & natter. What more could you ask for.
