Watford Rods Show

The Spring sun was already blazing by the time we arrived at the tennis club in Croxley Green, North West London. Another ideal rod show day. The Watford Rods guys had changed venues since last year. The tennis club offered more room for the show cars to spread out, a bigger carpark for the general public & a clubhouse with licensed bar.
Just as well, as it seemed twice as busy as last year’s event.
By lunchtime the showfield was packed & everyone was settling down for an afternoon of serious relaxing. Lots of familiar faces –the more shows we do, the longer it takes us to work our way around the cars as we constantly get side-tracked. We stop to say Hi & before we know it that’s another half an hour gone. No bad thing though. The rodding crowd are a genuinely friendly & welcoming bunch who always make us feel welcome. Can’t wait till we can swell the numbers at shows with a couple of our own projects.
The bar & barbeque were kept busy all day & the sunshine ensured the ice cream van was never unattended, while the rumble of engines was accompanied by 50s & 60s music provided by “Backbeat”, a 3 piece band of elderly gents doing a very competent job of covering classic rock & pop tunes.
All in all, a very pleasant way to spend a Bank Holiday afternoon.
