RAF Conningsby Families Day 20th May 06

This was the venue for the first showing of the Triumph Owners Club Lincolnshire Branch.  We had 4 machines turn out, 1 classic and 3 Hinkleys.  Not bad considering the forecast was dreadful and the club has only just started.
The ride there was dryish and setting up was ok, once we got past the armed guards on the gate.  We had a gazeebo thing to shelter under at first but the wind threatened to take it away so a very nice man from the MT section loaned us a minibus for the duration, what a star.  Then to set things off properly, it was bacon butties, donuts and coffee. What a start!!!
Apart from the obligatory funfair there was a variety of sports cars on show, Maybach, Farrari and Porche, static aircraft, BAE Systems, loads of displays about the RAF and various club stands etc.
Between 12 and 4 we were treated to a flying show to rival the best, rain and wind didnt stop these boys from showing off their aircraft.  Just about everything the RAF has was there, including some they dont anymore.  I dont think I have ever seen a Chinook pushed that hard, but the Harrier put them all in the shade.  The finale was a display by the new Typhoon (Eurofighter) – yes it does actually fly!!!
