1968 Dodge Charger.
Owner - Dave “TwoLanes”.

It’s a numbers matching 383 car that I was lucky enough to buy in 2001 from a guy in Yorkshire.

I used it as my daily driver for 2 years. When I got the car it was all original except for the paint which was red. The first things I changed were the wheels, (after 1 week), as I think the original 14" Magnums look lost on such a big car. I then started to worry about breaking the numbers matching engine and auto box, so I bought a 440 and box from a mate who collects Jensons. I’ve gasket matched the heads, fitted a performer cam and intake, 780 d/p Holly headers, msd plus a few other bits to go a bit faster. A good mate rebuilt the gearbox for me and I fitted a shift kit myself and a B&M shifter. While I was driving home with the newly fitted gearbox I smashed the diff to bits, so had an LSD, (Limited Slip Diff), fitted for those 2 wheel burnouts.

Next to go were the original seats; the ones in there now came from an Alpha Romeo 33 donated by my brother in-law. I bought a massive Hemi bonnet scoop from Ebay and eventually got up the nerve to cut a hole in the original bonnet for the 5" air filter to fit -boy that was worrying to do! It’s also got a 2 ½ inch exhaust system for that gorgeous big block noise. I’ve been wanting to make a start on the bodywork for ages as the red paint job was really poor, so with the help of my good mate Steve Pyle we, (well mainly Steve), bare metalled most of the car and rattle-can sprayed it satin black. This was going to be a temporary job but I like it, (and so does everyone else it seems), so it might stay this colour. I also fitted a fibre-glass bonnet and front and rear bumpers, (in satin black), at the same time. I missed the Mopar National meet this year cos the bottom arm bushes finally gave up and the car was really, really undriveable. Now it drives like a new car again, (unless it’s wet).

Plans for the future are to fit some of the parts I have waiting- a fuel cell, pump, filter, new pipes etc so I can connect the NOS kit that’s on the car but not hooked up. I have some other panels waiting as well, possibly more fibre-glass panels if I can find the money. I have all the original bits that came off the car stored around here somewhere. I’ve got to have a new front screen fitted as it cracked last year.

At this point I have to say a BIG thanks to Steve Pyle, (65 Nova).
Without all his help along the way, the car wouldn’t be anywhere near what it is today.
