The consul was bought via ebay, 3 weeks after we were connected to the internet! Dave saw it and had to have it. I managed to persuade him to take a look at it first. So after a phonecall, directions were scribbled down, a large wad of cash withdrawn from the hole in the wall, and we were off to Waterlooville. I rode pillion on the bike with a cushion wedged between us for a test drive of the consul. In the pouring rain we travelled for about an hour and a half when Dave pulled over onto the hard shoulder and asked me when will we see signs for Bird World!!! Bird World I said, you can forget signs for Bird World mate, we're in Southampton. Oh! he said I better give the guy a call and see where we go from here. Phonecall was made, more directions were scribbled, and soaking wet we were off once more. Half an hour later, freezing cold, we were chatting to the bloke looking over the consul. He wouldn't take the car off ebay early so back home we went and waited an agonising 5 days for the auction to end. Of course we won it and within 5 minutes of the auction ending, another phone call was made and we were back on the bike again down to Waterlooville. When we pulled into the car park - horror of all horrors was about to unfold. There was water under the car and the guy told us that during the week the kids had broken into the consul and pulled the plug on the drainage tank. My heart sank, but suspicion got the better of us. There were no broken windows on the consul and considering the catch for the bonnet was inside the car under the dash how did the "kids" get in? Dave told him - look we've won the consul fair and square here's the cash, we're not going without it. The guy was supposed to be going on holiday within the hour, we could pick it up next week when he was back. But Dave suggested whittling a piece of wood to the size of the drainage hole and banging it in to stop the waterflow. Drainage tank was topped up and I was eager to get in the car and drive away. I had a nervous journey getting back wondering if the car would be ok, but it was and here she is - Dave's baby.
